Night
of the Church Altars
In the early evening all over central San Miguel people stroll to visit the seven major churches to
see the holy relics and monuments inside. The streets are full of people and the Plaza Civica is full
of tables and food vendors. The altars in the churches are splendidly decorated, usually including the
traditional wheat grass, oranges, gold banners, and sweet smelling green herbs. At many statues, people
gently touch the hem of Christ or solemnly pray in silent devotion. |
